Starting a GLP-1 online can be refreshingly simple: a few questions, a clinician's review, and your medicine at your door. You'd be in good company, too. About one in six people who've taken a GLP-1 got it from an online provider.6KFFSourceKFF. The legit programs also make it easy to see who's looking after you. Here's what the safe path looks like, and the quick checks you can do yourself.
01The short answer
Is it safe to get a GLP-1 online?
Yes, when it's done the right way. A clinician licensed in your state reviews your health and decides whether a GLP-1 fits, and a licensed pharmacy fills your prescription.1Federation of State Medical BoardsSourceFederation of State Medical Boards. 02The safe path
What does it look like, step by step?
Most programs follow the same few steps, and you'll often hear back within a day or two:
Pick a program

A licensed clinician reviews it
A clinician licensed in your state looks over your answers, can ask follow-up questions, and decides whether a GLP-1 fits. In a few states, that includes a quick video or phone call.1Federation of State Medical BoardsSourceFederation of State Medical Boards. 03What good looks like
How can you tell a program is legit?
Legit programs have a few things in common, and they're happy to show them:

05Checking a pharmacy
How can you look up the pharmacy?
The FDA's BeSafeRx program has a handy four-point checklist. 08Before you pay
What should you check before you pay?

Three things are worth a quick look: how often you're billed (it isn't always monthly), how far ahead you need to cancel, and what happens if a clinician decides a GLP-1 isn't the right fit.

Frequently asked questions.
Do I need to see a doctor in person to get a GLP-1?
Usually not.

Should I go through my own doctor or an online program?

You can always keep your doctor in the loop.
How do I know my medicine is genuine?
It comes from a licensed pharmacy, with a prescription.
For brand-name, the makers' own pharmacies, LillyDirect and NovoCare, are one simple route.16Eli Lilly and CompanySourceLilly. LillyDirect®. What if the clinician says a GLP-1 isn't right for me?
They may suggest another option.
Programs explain in their terms what you'll pay in that case, and several refund some or all of it, so it's worth a look before you start.

A few quick checks give you peace of mind.

Other warnings include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, and a higher risk of low blood sugar when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea. The most common side effects are digestive, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation.
- This is a high-level summary, not a complete list. A licensed clinician will review your health history to decide whether a GLP-1 medication is right for you.
